Nursing Faculty Appointed to National Committee and Published

University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing faculty Susan Dresser, MSN APRN-CNS CCRN, was appointed to the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists' (NACNS) Legislative Regulatory Committee for 2016-2018.  In addition to working closely with NACNS Affiliates across the country providing support on issues of concern to CNSs nationwide, the committee is charged with drafting the 2016-2018 Public Policy Agenda for NACNS Board of Directors' approval.  NACNS is committed to work with policymakers, healthcare organizations, other professional groups and industry to promote an agenda addressing the most pressing issues facing quality patient care and the nursing profession. Their goal is to represent the clinical nurse specialist perspective effectively in all aspects of the practice environment through our advocacy efforts.

The Public Policy Agenda reflects the priorities of the NACNS membership and the issues on which the board of directors initiates actions. Keeping the nation’s health demands in mind, the 2016 ─ 2018 Public Policy Agenda will focus on the following priorities:

  1. Nurse Workforce
  2. Healthcare Reform
  3. Health Information Technology

In addition, Dresser is a co-author of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Toolkit, A Guide for the New Clinical Nurse Specialist, Second Edition textbook.   This is a one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive reference guide for new Clinical Nurse Specialists entering the field as well as seasoned practitioners looking to update their knowledge. Disseminating a wealth of current professional practice guidance and practical information on reimbursement and certification, the second edition has been fully updated to reflect changes resulting from the Affordable Care Act and the APRN Consensus Model.   This textbook is used not only at the OU College of Nursing, however, at nursing institutions across the country.
